Virtual Field Trip To Hatchin!
Many people have already asked me where I shop for my bento supplies and ingredients and I've always referred them to our favorite J-grocery, Hatchin. Ofcourse, stiff like vegetables and eggs are still bought at the local grocery, but items like nori, furikake, tonkatsu sauce and the like are from Hatchin. Then there's also the local malls that occassionally may or may not have what I'm looking for, but that's too much of a hit-and-miss thing to talk about.

Anyway, I've long been talking about taking pictures of the stuff they sell at Hatchin (such as Hello Kitty cheese), but it's only now that I actually got to do it.

So, go on and have a look!

Hatchin Entrance

Hatchin, perpetual provider of yummy croquettes and other pan-fried goodies! I like their set-up because it works like a deli. You just tell the person at the counter what you want and how many of it you want, then they take the tray out, take the food and place it in a styrofoam tray, wrap it in clingwrap and then print out and neatly stick a barcode/price sticker on your item.

Hatchin and the house/kitchenware that they have for sale. They have a collection of chopsticks (some with their own cases) to choose from, though I'm yet to find the 14cm chopsticks that I want (they fit under the lid of my Urara bento boxes). Their chopsticks range from 16.5cm to 21cm, and come in either plastic, melaware or wood.

They also have cute spoons and tin cups, tiny egg whisks, onigiri and musubi molds, heart-shaped microwavable egg molds, sushi grass and a whole bunch of other stuff that I forgot to take pictures of. I just got my first set of sauce containers from them the other day, actually... 6 fish-shaped ones with 6 square ones in a pack, all with pink caps for 60 pesos. ^_^ They also sell tiny pipettes separately (10 pesos) which can be used for filling the said containers.

Sauces, soy sauce, katsu sauce, etc. They have a variety of brands to choose from, too.

JUICE!!!

Their chilled display case with... pickles. :p And other stuff that you can add as a side dish or as garnish for your bento.

And now we move on to the cute things....

Hello Kitty and UltraMan cheese!!!!

Hello Kitty chahan flavoring!

Hello Kitty Macaroni!!

Hello Kitty and Doraemon (and some sentai team I don't recognize) Sausages!!

Hello Kitty Custard snacks!

More Hello Kitty snacks!

And Pikachu and AnPan Man make appearances too...

So there. In case you're in the area and you want to drop by, then here's the map:

I actually wanted to take more pictures since there was a whole bunch of other things that I wanted to show, but I got a little shy so I put my camera away. Hehe...

That's it for now.

hehe... give it a try! ^_^ I'm actually hoping that lots of people go there so that they'd never close down the way J-wave did. Sigh.

As for the pic, I actually just used the pic as a link to a separate blog (my original blog is ksolaris.livejournal.com, this is tanuki_no_bento.livejournal.com). The code looks like this:

< a href="" target="_new"> < img src="" border="0" alt=" put text here" >< /a>

Just take out the spaces.

Target="_new" is if you want your page to open in a new window when someone clicks on it. Otherwise, just get rid of it.

border="0" is so that your pic doesn't get that blue border that automatically gets included whenever you turn something into a link.

alt="text" is optional, if you want some text to appear when people hover their cursors on top of your pic.

hope that helps. ^^

lolz. Ganito na lang. Somehow make your way to Pasong Tamo (aka Chino Roces) and get on a jeep headed away from Makati Cinema Square with the "PRC" signboard. Sabihin mo kay manong ibaba ka ng ShopWise which is hard to miss. Once you get to that landmark, you can walk to Hatchin na, since it's a block or so away. :) Better take the map with you. :p

Ok then! I can make my way to Chino Roces. Easier that way. PRC jeep. Noted :) I think I could do that hehehe. I am sooooo embarrassed but at least this helps!

I am planning to make onigiri muna. Looks easy kasi hehehe XD What's your favorite onigiri filling? :)

my fave fillings are either shredded kani (those crabsticks from the grocery) or scrambled egg. Hehe. ^_^ I haven't tried stuff like smoked salmon or eel or anything like that because it's expensive. XD

Isama mo si bf. Baka alam niya yung area. And at least may kasabay ka. ^_^v

Yeah, eel would be expensive :( I tried the plums dati, ok naman :D But that was a long time ago. Pero it was pretty interesting. Scrambled egg is something I haven't tried yet.

Re: Isama si BF. Hehe. As long as we have the same free time, why not? ;) Masaya yun! :D

shredded umeboshi or maybe furikake mixed with the rice and some mayo is actually a good idea. ^_^ Most of my onigiri have no filling pero the rice is mixed with something to give flavor.

Ah yes, I saw the tonkatsu sauce.

By the way, any other sources of the chopsticks with containers? Or maybe suggestions as to how to pack them in the bento? :)

Hehe... glad to be of service. :D It's been a while since I've last been to Hatchin, but I'd recommend dropping by on a Saturday. Last I checked (which was around the first week of December) they still sell freshly-cooked takoyaki and other Japanese snacks on Saturdays. XD

Hmm... I've never really bothered to check their hours, but the earliest that I've visited them would be about 9:30am, and the latest was around 8pm. And yup, they're open on Sundays. ^____^

Add away! :D

Lolz. I'm actually thinking of freezing the non-frozen ones I get since they can go bad if they're not cooked within 3 days. Because of this, I can't stockpile on the stuff! Haha!

I totally have taken these items/food for granted when I was living in Tokyo. It's really not that hard to when you're surrounded by it. I go to convenient stores like 3x daily since it's located almost at every corner. My apartment never ran out of FURIKAKE and OCHATSUKE since these are lifesavers when you're just lazy to cook. Now that I'm back in Manila, how I wish I could have indulged more. True that it's much cheaper compared to actual prices in Japan but for the going rate of prices here in the Philippines... it's crazy expensive! Nonetheless, thanks for posting this blog and I will surely visit HATCHIN. Expensive or not... I'm definitely coming home carrying atleast 3 big bags!!!

Glad to be of help. ^_^

You might also want to try Co-op, a J-grocery with all items priced at 75php (except for some others like frozen fish, etc). It's in Little Tokyo in Makati. Happy hunting! ^_^
